Residual moisture check with fumigated lumber
With fumigated lumber, residual moisture can only be checked by means of residual moisture control. Conventional methods such as electronic resistance measurement show incorrect results. Nor is there any conversion factor for these results to determine the actual timber humidity. For this reason, residual moisture control is carried out by us on every log (unedged) to determine the timber humidity. In this test, a drill is used to remove a few grams of drilling chips from the centre grain of the pith. This drilling sample is placed on so-called drying kiln scales immediately after removal. After an average drying time of 3-5 minutes, this instrument then shows the actual timber humidity with an accuracy of +/- 0.5%. With bulk products or edged lumber, three sample measurements are taken per package (approx. 2 – 2.5 m3). You will receive the residual moisture results on a datasheet when you buy fumigated lumber.
